Dr. Jeffrey Meynig has been practicing surgery in Austin for over 27 years. He earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. His surgical internship and residency were completed at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston where he received numerous honors and awards. His residency training included lengthy rotations at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
During his training at MD Anderson, Dr. Meynig learned a technique called lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymph node biopsy. He was one of the first surgeons to introduce this technique in Austin. This minimally invasive approach helps to accurately locate, remove, and evaluate the closest lymph node to the cancer to determine if the cancer has spread. It is used most often in breast cancer and melanoma.
Dr. Meynig is known for taking complex medical procedures and making them easy-to-understand for his patients. As a patient you will clearly understand your condition, your treatment options, and your procedure with all your questions answered. Dr. Meynig is a Texas Monthly Super Doctor and has received The Patient’s Choice Award and The Compassionate Doctor Recognition Award.
Dr. Meynig has a broad and rich level of experience in General Surgery. His interests include abdominal surgeries, most often performed using the minimally invasive robotic or laparoscopic techniques. These include:
- Gall Bladder Removal
- Hernia Repairs – Incisional, Inguinal, umbilical, parastomal, recurrent and other complex abdominal wall hernias
- Hiatal Hernia Repairs - for reflux and heartburn (GERD)
- Colon Surgery – for cancer, large polyps, or diverticular disease
- Diseases of the small intestine, spleen, and adrenal gland
Dr. Meynig also has interest and extensive experience in the work-up and treatment of Thyroid and Parathyroid disease, Breast cancer, Benign breast lumps, and Melanoma.
Dr. Meynig was born in Beaumont, Texas as the youngest of three children. He married Austin native Lorie Chapman Meynig, and together they have 4 children and five grandchildren. He enjoys sports, outdoor activities, and horses, but most of all spending time with his wife and family.
Dr. Meynig and his wife are the founders of Blessed to Give Ministries, a 501c3 nonprofit international ministry. They have been active in Belize, Honduras and of course locally in Texas. He is a strong Christian man, and one of his greatest satisfactions comes from honoring God with his life and his surgical practice.
