Dr. Askew was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and grew up in Austin, Texas. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from The University of Texas at Austin in 1982 and earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston with honors in 1986. After completing his residency in General Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, he joined his father in surgical practice in Austin in 1991.

Dr. Askew is a member of the American Society of Breast Cancer and works closely with local medical and radiation oncologists, radiologist and plastic surgeons to provide state of the art surgical care in breast cancer including ultrasound guided breast biopsies, breast conservation surgery, skin and nipple sparing mastectomies, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and brachytherapy.

He has extensive experience in thyroid and parathyroid surgery including the minimally invasive radioguided parathyroidectomy.

Dr. Askew is an experienced robotic and laparoscopic surgeon performing surgery for diseases of the gallbladder, colon, small intestine, spleen, adrenal gland, liver and stomach. He also performs robotic and laparoscopic surgery for gastroesophageal reflux and diaphragmatic hernias. In addition, Dr. Askew repairs a variety of abdominal wall hernias using open, laparoscopic and robotic techniques including incisional, inguinal, epigastric, umbilical and hiatal hernias.

He served with The American Cancer Society Board of Austin, the medical executive board of Seton Hospital and was the Chief of Surgery at Seton Hospital Main.

Dr. Askew is listed in Who’s Who of American Surgeons, US News and World Report “Best” Surgeons and America's Most Honored Doctors - Top 10%. He is named a “Super Doctor” by Texas Monthly Magazine.

Dr. Askew enjoys carrying on his family’s tradition of compassionate surgical care.
